The Kaduna–Abuja highway on Sunday witnessed a massive traffic gridlock, leaving hundreds of motorists and passengers stranded for several hours.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the persistent gridlock, which has become a recurring problem, especially during festive periods, continues to cause severe hardship for road users.

Some commuters reportedly spent between five and six hours on the highway, a journey that normally takes about two and a half hours.

The Managing Director of NAN, Malam Ali M. Ali, who was also caught in the traffic jam, called on the relevant authorities to take urgent action to ease the congestion and restore free movement along the busy route. (NAN)

He further urged the authorities to implement lasting and practical measures to prevent a recurrence of such incidents, stressing the need for improved traffic management and road safety interventions on the highway.
