The suspect, simply identified as Amagoh Andrew, was arrested in a commercial bank in Lagos while trying to withdraw the initial deposit from his victim.The operation that spelt his doom was meant to be the last for him before tying the nuptial knot; however, he unknowingly walked into the dragnet of the law.

Speaking during a mid-day parade at the police headquarters, Andrew confessed that he was lured into the nefarious trade by Chinedu, the cousin of the victim.Continuing, the suspect said Ebn Chinedu wrote out a seeming fail-proof script for the three member gang. The plan according to Ebn was to leech his uncle whom he described as too tight-fisted, by sending a supposed text-message from hired-killers who have been engaged to terminate his life for an undisclosed offence by one of his business partners.

The script achieved its intended purpose, as the victim simply identified as Hanson got jittery and out of fear for his life, started negotiating with the supposed hired-killers. A sample of one of the several text messages sent to Mr. Hanson reads thus:”We have been asked to kill you….You are required to send N8 million, so as to avoid being killed”.

However, as a way of double security, the victim accordingly, contacted the Commissioner of Police, Barrister Marvel Akpoyibo, who instantly transferred the matter to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos. The victim was thereafter enjoined to play along with the hired-killers by the police.

Subsequently, negotiation started afresh and the victim pleaded with his supposed assailants that he could not afford N8 million, and he could give them N5 million, adding that he had only N200,000 cash, and if they could meet him in the banking hall of a commercial bank(name withheld), he would give them a cheque which they could withdraw immediately.
