The National Coordinator GYN, Muhammad Sani Bello, in a chat with Daily Trust in Abuja, noted that “through sanitation, waste management, recycling, reuse and tree planting, we can all achieve cleaner and greener environment for all and sundry.”
“Climate change is the greatest challenge facing man’s existence on earth in this century. It is a process of global warming, in fact, attributable to the green house gases generated by human activity. The impact of climate changes are being felt by both developed and developing countries,” he said.
According to him, climate change impacts are felt on agricultural production, health, bio diversities, social and economic conditions on the populace and on the environment in general, saying that “Climate change is predicted to worsen the incidence of drought and desertification and millions of people will be turned into refugees because of the disaster.”
He added that as a means of empowering the youths, GYN is creating sustainable livelihood for the youth through awareness campaign, training and workshops and as well as partnering with stakeholders to promote entrepreneurship and self-employment for the youth.
Bello said the movement has developed a holistic initiative towards effecting social change to enhance youth development with a view to evolving strong and vibrant Nigeria that is socio-economically and technologically developed to utilize its abundant human and material resources, in a way that is both sustainable and environmental friendly.
“We will engage actively on green-entrepreneurship such as agriculture, horticulture, waste management, renewable and alternative energy through our projects which include ‘Keep the Environment Clean and Green’, ‘Alternative energy Program’, ‘Energy Efficiency Incentive Program’,” he said.
