Nasarawa State youth groups and student associations, in conjunction with Action Aid Nigeria and Global Peace Development, are seeking for the establishment of a youth development commission.

The groups made the call when they met with the Deputy Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, in Lafia on Monday.

A youth leader, Mr Akolo David Alaku, who  made the presentation, said the commission would be the panacea to violent extremism in the state as it would  harness the economic potentials of the youths in the state.

In his response, the deputy speaker, Nehemiah Dandaura, who   acknowledged himself and majority of the house members as youths, promised to do everything within his power to see that a bill to that effect was passed so that the commission can take off.

The representative of Action Aid Nigeria, Mr Ali Adamu, thanked the deputy speaker for his positive response, assuring that Action Aid ensured that marginalised and vulnerable groups in the society are given attention, which is what the bill is trying to address.
