An Idoma socio-cultural group, Opiatoha k’ Idoma, has raised an alarm over the existence of criminal activities at a forest in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State by some allegedly armed gangsters.

Speaking at a news conference in Makurdi at the weekend, the Secretary-General of Opiatoha k’ Idoma, Adoka Adaji, who commended steps taken by Governor Samuel Ortom to reduce the high rate of crime in the state, urged for more security surveillance of the area.

The body also called on the Inspector General of Police, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Army to intensify security operations in Okpokwu local government area of the state where it alleged that criminal activities are on the rise. 

“There is a place in Okpokwu local government code-named Sambisa Forest, the conventional police are aware of the existence of criminals there but they dare not go there because of the activities of these boys who have sophisticated weapons.

“What these boys do sometimes is to make sure that women who go to the market to sell garri are waylaid at Olo area and their monies collected. No week passes without an incident of cultism and armed robbery recorded there,” Adaji said.
