The Nigerian Youth Parliament (NYP) has commended the Federal Government through the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande Wisdom, for fulfilling its promise to increase the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) allowance from N33,000 to N77,000.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Zakari Idris, described the development as a landmark achievement that demonstrates the government’s commitment to youth empowerment. He noted that the increase in the corps members’ stipend would significantly improve their welfare, allowing them to better meet their financial needs during their service year.
“This is a commendable step by the Federal Government, and we sincerely appreciate the Honourable Minister of Youth Development for ensuring this promise is kept. The allowance increase will provide relief to thousands of corps members and enhance their service experience,” the Speaker stated.
Beyond the NYSC allowance increment, the NYP also lauded the Honourable Minister for his unprecedented youth-focused initiatives, which have been the first of their kind in Nigeria. Among these initiatives is the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA), a platform recently launched to provide every young Nigerian with at least two skills to improve their employability and entrepreneurial capabilities.
The Parliament also acknowledged the establishment of the Nigerian Youth Help Desk, designed to offer guidance, support, and opportunities to young people across the country. These programs, along with several other initiatives introduced by the Minister, are aimed at tackling youth unemployment, improving capacity-building, and ensuring young Nigerians have access to critical resources for self-development.
“The Honourable Minister has demonstrated a clear vision for the empowerment of Nigerian youth. These initiatives are not just promises but tangible programs that will shape the future of young Nigerians. We encourage young people to take full advantage of these opportunities,” the Speaker added.
The Nigerian Youth Parliament reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Ministry of Youth Development and other stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of these programs. It also urged the government to continue prioritizing policies that advance youth development and create sustainable opportunities for the younger generation.
