The Isoko Youth Parliament (IYP) has publicly commended the people of Idheze community in Isoko South Local Government Area for what it described as a courageous and proactive response in confronting and repelling suspected Fulani herdsmen accused of causing unrest in the region.

In a statement issued by the Speaker of the Parliament, Ajakpofo E. Andrew, the youth body praised the bravery and unity demonstrated by the Idheze people in defending their land and ensuring the safety of residents amidst rising tensions and insecurity posed by violent herders.

“We applaud the courage and determination of the Idheze community in protecting their land and ensuring the safety of their people. Their bold action is a shining “example of what can be achieved when a community stands together in the face of danger,” the statement read.

Reports from local sources indicate that persistent attacks on farmlands and threats to community members had escalated in recent weeks, prompting Idheze youths and local vigilante groups to take decisive steps to secure their territory.

The confrontation led to the expulsion of the herders from the area, restoring calm and confidence among the residents.

The Isoko Youth Parliament used the occasion to call on other communities within Isoko nation to draw inspiration from the actions of Idheze, urging them to establish community-based security mechanisms to guard against external threats.

“In light of this development, we call on other Isoko communities to follow the exemplary lead of Idheze and take necessary measures to safeguard our territories against external threats. It is imperative that we stand united in our quest for a safer and more secure Isoko nation.”

The IYP also reiterated the need for communal collaboration, proactive leadership, and constant vigilance to curb insecurity, which it noted has become a growing concern in many rural parts of Delta State and beyond.

“We urge all Isoko communities to prioritize their safety and security, and to work together in addressing the challenges posed by herdsmen and other security threats. Together, we can build a more prosperous and peaceful Isoko nation,” Andrew emphasized.

The Parliament concluded by reaffirming its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, security, and development across the Isoko region.
