A civil society organisation, Creek to Creek Movement, has expressed support for the continuation of the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, urging the federal government to sustain the arrangement to protect oil infrastructure in the Niger Delta.

The group made the call in a statement signed by its conveners, Comrade Jefe Abido, Comrade Ajibade Smith and Comrade Chima Samuel Obririnank.

In the statement, the organisation appealed to Bola Ahmed Tinubu to maintain the surveillance contract, noting that it has contributed to improved security around oil facilities and helped reduce incidents of pipeline vandalism in the region.

According to the group, sustaining the contract would support stability in the Niger Delta and encourage continued investment in the oil and gas sector.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must, as a matter of national security and economic growth, sustain this contract,” the group said.

The organisation stated that the surveillance arrangement has contributed to improved monitoring of oil facilities and greater community participation in protecting pipelines.

“Our findings indicate that there has been a reduction in pipeline vandalism and pollution, which has made it possible for farmers and fishermen to thrive with the efforts of communities and Tantita operations,” the statement said.

The group also said the contract has helped improve investor confidence and strengthen economic activities in the Niger Delta.

“With the high inflow of foreign investments into the Niger Delta, it is clear that Tantita Security Services has helped restore investor confidence, with many jobs created and local content enhanced,” the statement added.

Creek to Creek Movement therefore urged the federal government to sustain the surveillance arrangement to support security, oil production and economic growth.

“As a leading voice in the Niger Delta region, we believe the government should continue the Tantita surveillance contract in order to sustain stability, increased production output and economic prosperity,” the group said.

The organisation also called on Nigerians to support initiatives aimed at protecting oil infrastructure and promoting development in the region.
