A group, Universal Men’s Fellowship of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, has laid a foundation stone for the construction of a new block of toilets for Government Technical College, Biakpan.

International chairman of the group, Sylvester Eboigbe, said they decided to support the school which has a population of about 500 students as part of their corporate social responsibility.

Eboigbe said they were worried as a group that such a community school did not have toilet, which forced students and teachers to defecate in nearby bushes.

He added that it is a way of paying the school for allowing them the use of their classrooms and football field for their annual activities whenever they visited the community for their events and celebration.

“Our intervention therefore is a way of paying back the school as a corporate social responsibility because they usually and freely allow us to use their facilities each time we approach them,” he said.

The principal of the school, Mr Nkamenyin Okokon Okon, expressed gratitude for the intervention. He said such concern and intervention were a big relief to them, which will avert further embarrassment to him, staff and students.

One of the community chiefs, Egwu Ogban, also expressed happiness for the intervention, saying the community was quite appreciative.
