A Non-governmental organization, CropLife International, has called for the promotion and adoption of relevant biotechnology in farming activities in Nigeria.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the two-day CropLife West and Central Africa Hub and Regulatory Workshop in Abuja, signed by its president, Mahmood Tauhid, the group said the technology, if adopted, would help to boost food production.
The group, however, pledged to collaborate with international and government agencies to strengthen national legislation in the management of pesticides in Nigeria.
Earlier, during the workshop, the Senate pledged to support the enactment of pesticide legislation to mitigate the problem of misuse and address importation of pesticides including marketing, storage and their application and use, among other provisions.
