The Rivers Grassroot Movement has called for greater unity among stakeholders in the state, urging political leaders to put the collective interest of Rivers people above partisan divisions.

Speaking at an extraordinary stakeholders meeting of the Movement in Port Harcourt, its leader, High Chief (Amb.) Sobomabo Jackrich, said the organisation was founded to bridge gaps created by partisan politics and to ensure that Rivers people speak with one voice in pursuit of development.

He stressed that unity remains the bedrock of progress, adding that collaboration between the Governor and the House of Assembly was critical to restoring public trust and accelerating development.

Jackrich commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his restraint in the face of political challenges, and also acknowledged the efforts of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, in supporting peace initiatives. He urged both leaders and other stakeholders to ensure that such crises do not recur.

“We will continue to advocate for justice, equity, and accountability in governance while supporting policies and projects that uplift the lives of Rivers people,” he said.

The Movement also expressed solidarity with Governor Fubara, noting his leadership style and ongoing projects across the state. Jackrich said the people were confident that the Governor would accelerate development upon his return to office after the emergency rule.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Jackrich urged Rivers people to prioritise competence, character, and credibility over party loyalty and sentiments in electing leaders.

The event also featured the recognition of High Chief Barr. Dumo Lulu-Briggs, who was honoured with an Award of Trusteeship for his contributions to peace, reconciliation, and development in the state.
