The Arewa Joint Action Movement (AJAM), has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing northerners into key government parastatals and agencies.

Recall that in the announcement on Friday, 12 individuals from the North were placed into strategic national positions.

They are Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani (Zamfara) as Managing Director, Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC); Alhaji Hamza Ibrahim Baba (Kano) as Programme Manager, Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP); Alhaji Abubakar Umar Jarengol (Adamawa) Executive Director, Operations – Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC), Barrister Sama’ila Audu (Katsina).

Others are Executive Director, Administration – Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Professor Musa Garba Mai Tafsiri (Kebbi), Executive Secretary, National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, Comrade Isa Aremu, (Kwara) and Director-General, Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS).

AJAM in a statement on Sunday by Lauretta Bako, its Convener, described the appointments as a reflection of President Tinubu’s commitment to inclusive governance.

The statement reads: “This action not only addresses the concerns raised by various stakeholders regarding regional representation but also underscores the President’s commitment to listening to constructive criticism and making necessary adjustments for the greater good of the nation.

“In recent months, the discourse surrounding the need for equitable representation in federal appointments has intensified. Many voices from the North expressed apprehensions about perceived imbalances that could undermine the unity and cohesion of our great nation.

“It is with great satisfaction that we now observe President Tinubu’s response to these concerns through a series of appointments that prioritize fairness and inclusivity.

“The recent appointments made by President Tinubu are a clear indication of his administration’s responsiveness to the aspirations of the Nigerian people. By ensuring that key positions are filled by capable individuals from the Northern region, the President has demonstrated a commitment to rectifying past imbalances that have long been a point of contention.

“This move not only fosters a sense of belonging among the Northern populace but also reinforces the principle that every region of Nigeria deserves equitable representation in the federal structure.

“Furthermore, these appointments should be seen as a testament to President Tinubu’s willingness to engage in dialogue with the citizenry.
