The Joint Campus Committee (JCC) of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has distance itself from recent call for the reversal of the sack of vice chancellors of the 13 federal universities by NANS President Tijjani Usman.

A statement by the chairman of JCC, Bauchi/Gombe axis, Sulaiman Umar Chinade said Tijjani Usman’s action was politically motivated and invitation to chaos, which was not in tandem with the wishes of Nigerian students.

“Usman has violated the sanctity of his office by reducing himself to a pawn in the hands of some mischievous elements, whose motive is targeted towards derailing the educational policies of President Buhari’s administration,” the statement said.

The students said the status of the NANS president “is questionable as there is no evidence to validate his claim that he’s a student of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, as he claimed.”

“The era of cash and carry activism propagated by Tijjani Usman during the 2015 elections is over as Nigerian students will no longer tolerate their association being reduced to a platform used by money bags politicians again,” the statement said.

The JCI urged the vice chancellors of the 13 universities to disregard the NANS president “antics and view it as nothing but a blackmail to curry pecuniary favours from them.”

The students also urged the Minister of Education Malam Adamu Adamu to disregard Tijjani’s “blackmail and focus on his statutory responsibilities of making our education sector better.”

The students said the NANS president should retract from further involvement in this constitutional matter and concentrate on the transition programme since his tenure has ended in September last year.

“The security agencies should take pre-emptive measures to stop any protest to be organized by the Tijjani’s NANS on the vice chancellors’ matter as an attempt to sabotage the security situation in the country,” the students said.
