How school fees affect the home

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) support group in Kano, Maidattako Network for Empowerment and Development, has donated school uniforms to more than 700 pupils in the 10 wards of Gwale Local Government Area.

Speaking during the distribution of the uniforms, the Chairman of the network, Malam Umar Farouk Mukhtar said although the initiative was politically motivated, however the method of selection of beneficiaries has no links with politics.

Mukhtar said the beneficiaries were selected based on their parents’ economic status, adding, “we only select pupils from poor families who cannot afford to buy uniforms for their children”.

He said the organisation had also empowered 21 women with grinding machines and a token of N3, 000 each as a starter pack.

“We have so far donated school uniforms to over 700 pupils and also trained 21 women on operational methodologies as well as personal hygiene before empowering them with a free grinding machine. This is a new approach adopted to inculcate clean political campaign in the minds of all politicians irrespective of their political affiliations.

“It will interest you to note that many have started copying from what we have done within our limited resources,” said the executive chairman.

He added that, the network had also trained 112 people on skill acquisition in six selected trades as well as an intended plan to train and empowered 30 people in every quarter of the year.
