A Bauchi based Fulani Socio-Cultural group, Fulbe Network Initiative has instituted a direct criminal complaint against the PDP candidate for Toro federal constituency, Shehu Buba Umar.

The complainants in a petition jointly signed by Alhaji Ibrahim Adamu, Babangida Muhammad Isa, Hajiya Asabe Isa Tirwun and Alhaji Ahmad Ali asked the Court to issue a Criminal Summon on the PDP candidate over intentional insult and defamation of character against Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar.

Addressing a Press Conference, the group coordinator who is also one of the signatories, Alhaji Ibrahim Adamu disclosed that, the PDP candidate had at a political rally at Rinjin Gani, Toro local government area defamed the character of governor Mohammed Abubakar.

According to him, he portrayed the governor as a person of bad behaviour not worthy of his office.

He quoted Shehu Buba Umar, the PDP candidate as saying “”we brought into power,the APC government. The incumbent Governor of Bauchi State, in 2015 I was personally given the sum of Three Hundred Million Naira by his Higness Wazirin Adamawa which I handed it over to M.A Abubakar (which he took it to Okene), we gave him this money which unfortunately you can now see the betrayal today”…vote for us, vote for Kauran Bauchi to drag this rat away “.

According to the group, the statement allegedly defamed the person and office of the Executive Governor of Bauchi State and the ruling APC.

“Out is also capable of inciting disturbances as well as instigating innocent citizens to revolt against constituted authority which may lead to the breakdown of law and order in the state,”he said.

According to him, as contained in their application, what the PDP candidate said allegedly contravened Sections 391 and 399 of the Penal Code Law of Bauchi State.

Also speaking, Chairman of the group who is also the former Bauchi State Accountant General, Alhaji Aliyu Maigamo lamented that the PDP candidate stoop so low bandying about unsubstantiated allegations against Governor Abubakar.

He said the allegations are done out of a desperation to score cheap political point and woo gullible electorates.
