Civil Society Action Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA) has engaged stakeholders in the education sector on how to track funds disbursed to State Universal Basic Education Boards for effective utilization.
Speaking at a stakeholder’s dialogue and capacity building training on tracking UBE intervention funds, the Policy Adviser, CSACEFA, Chioma Osuji, said the community actors have a stake in the utilisation of the funds.
She added that the Federal Government has disbursed N293 billion from 2015 to June 2017 to states for the UBE intervention, but that despite the intervention there is little impact on the communities because they have not been engaged in the implementation process.
“We believe that every child should have an opportunity to be educated and that is why we are building the capacity of community members so that they can effectively engage the government on developments that have direct effects on their communities,” she said.
She added that they are working in three local governments – Lere, Jaba and Kaduna North – in a bid to bridge the gap between the government and the communities by involving them in their action plans.
The Executive Chairman, Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Malam Nasiru Umar, who was represented by the Director, Physical Project and Monitoring, Monday Baro Madaki, said the aim of the programme is to sensitize communities on how proposals for UBE projects were implemented.
He added that, “The state has been able to access funds from 2005 to 2016. We have executed 2013 projects up to 100 per cent while 2014 projects are being executed and are roughly at 70 per cent completion.
“Evaluation of bids for the 2015 and 2016 is being carried out which we hope by next week they will round up and we will award for the 2015 to 2016 projects.”
