The Bassa Indigenous Youth Assembly (BIYA) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), yesterday, flagged off a rural campaign for girl-child education in Paiko-Bassa community in Gurdi Aard of Abaji Area Council.

The General Secretary of BIYA, Comrade Isah Alhassan, flagged off the campaign on behalf of the BIYA President, Comrade Salihu Zakari Galadima, with the theme: “Importance of Girl-Child Education in Rural Communities”.

He said BIYA decided to embark on the campaign to sensitise parents on the importance of girl-child education.

The BIYA president explained that girl-child education, “Though it is a peculiar challenge in every society and the nation at large, but BIYA has taken it as a challenge to give it more awareness across Bassa rural communities.”

He identified lack of classrooms, dilapidated structures and shortage of teachers among challenges facing most of the rural schools.

He, therefore, called on authorities of the area council to assist in building classrooms and providing furniture in order to enhance a conducive learning environment for the pupils.
