The Kaiama Development Association [KDA], representing stakeholders, youths, women, and community leaders across Kaiama LGA of Kwara State, has rejected the announcement of Hon. Saidu Baba Ahmed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Kaiama/Baruten Federal Constituency for the 2027 general elections.
The association’s position was contained in a statement signed by its President, Alh. Yakubu Salihu; Secretary- General, Alh. Aminu Mohammed Umar and Publicity Secretary, Dr. Hussein Yahaya.
According to the statement, Ahmed’s emergence as the APC candidate was announced without consultation with ward leaders, traditional institutions, youth groups, women groups, or development associations across Kaiama and Baruten LGAs.
Th KDA said it neither recognized the process nor accepted its outcome, insisting that political imposition cannot substitute genuine consensus.

The association further alleged that the process violated APC’s internal democracy principles by bypassing constitutional provisions for open primaries.
It also criticized Ahmed’s legislative performance, claiming that records showed that had not sponsored any bills or moved motions in Kwara House of Assembly since 2019, and therefore lacked the capacity to effectively represent the constituency at the national level.
However, KDA called on the APC National and Kwara State leadership to immediately nullify the imposition of the candidate; conduct a free, fair, and transparent primary for all aspirants; and engage traditional rulers, elders, youths, women, and development associations before any decision on the constituency.
The statement said, “Any representative not chosen by the people of Kaiama and Baruten will lack legitimacy. We will deploy every lawful avenue available to resist this imposition and ensure the will of the people prevails at the polls in 2027.
“We remain committed to peace. But peace without justice is neither sustainable nor acceptable.
“Kaiama/Baruten Federal Constituency belongs to the people, not a few political elites. The era of imposition is over. We urge all stakeholders to act in defense of unity, fairness, and democratic principles.”
