A Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has launched a community enlightenment campaign on the danger of political thuggery and drug abuse among youths.

Addressing a press conference in Gombe, state Chairman of the CNG, Ibrahim Mohammed Bala, said the campaign was aimed at educating youths on the dangers associated with drug abuse and thuggery.

He said the group would organise rallies across the 11 local government areas of the state, to engage traditional and religious leaders to enlighten the general public on the menace of drug abuse and other social vices in the society.

Bala said the most effective way to deal with the problems was through intervention of political leaders at all levels.

“If our political leaders can use the power at their disposal, the problem of drug abuse and using youths as thugs during elections is more likely to be tackled more effectively,” he said.

He said as the 2019 elections was gathering momentum, the group would only support candidate that was ready to tackle the vices.
