Group launches Islamic manual on fiscal governance

The Lead Director of the Centre for Social Justice Limited by Guarantee (CSJ) Eze Onyekpere gave the advice in advice in Abuja at the public presentation of “A manual on Amanah (Trust) in Fiscal Governance: An Overview from the Qur’an and Hadith” produced by the CSJ and the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA).

The manual explored the possibilities of helping Muslims in Nigeria who are making concerted effort to live up to the teaching of Islam with the sole aim of pointing out the importance of imbibing the spirit of transparency and accountability in the management of public resources and to expand it to the larger society and the nation.
“Corruption in all ramifications is a big hurdle that has held back national development,” he said, adding that the Manual is an attempt to explore the teachings of Islam to complement efforts being made to combat corruption and lack of transparency in managing public funds and their expenditure in the country.
Prof. Musa Abdu-Raheem of the Ekiti State University Ado-Ekiti said: “This manual is an attempt to use the teachings of Islam to drive home the essence of being transparent in handling public funds and that it stressed the essence of keeping the financial rules and regulations as stipulated in the Nigerian Constitution and other related laws and regulations.”
The Chief Imam and Abuja Branch Missioner of the Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society of Nigeria (NASFAT) Alhaji Sherafudeen Abdulsalam Aliagan said the content of the manual should be imbibed and implemented and not just to have and keep it as another book.
