The Almajiri Child Rights Initiative (ACRI) has partnered with the Yobe State government to chart a way forward on the future of Almajiri children in the state.

The Coordinator and Team leader of the group, Mohammed Sabo Keana noted that almajiri children have been facing a lot of challenges, which include lack of formal education, inadequate nutrition and good shelter among others.

He said the team was in the state to follow up on the government’s commitment and response to the Almajiri situation.

Kaena said the team had earlier toured five local governments to interact and collate the needs of the almajirai who were repatriated from other states due to COVID-19.

According to him, a national summit for almajiri  children will be convened to discuss solutions to the issue.

Responding, the Secretary to State Government, Baba Malam Wali, said the state government has given much priority to tsangaya education as the cradle of knowledge in the region.

He said the government was supporting the schools with basic facilities like water, toilets and feeding.
