The Chairman Foundation for Peace, Economic and Agricultural Transformation (FPEAT) Alhaji Malik Audu has said Nigerians need to go back to agriculture to achieve peace and reduce dependence on oil.

He said this when the group (FPEAT) paid a courtesy visit to Daily Trust headquarters in Abuja.

To this end, the group is planning to have farm settlements that will encourage young people to engage in farming.

“A graduate will not want to go to farm but to surmount the hurdle we propose a farming structure whereby it will have sections that can help in the development of the society," he said. The plan is to implement the proposal before 2020, Alhaji Audu said.

The project will have a farming area, storage, processing area, tree crops, gardens for relaxation, sporting area, parking space, meeting hall, offices, shops, guest houses, security post cyber cafe and many more.

He said: "when we have a high level of unemployed youths and widows with children that cannot cater for themselves, this gives rise to insecurity which is a problem we aim to solve."

He said his group was working with corporate organisations to provide solutions that will bring about lasting peace that can get international and local corporation.

He said FPEAT was out to achieve peace through empowerment saying "if we empower the youth, empower the elderly these will be able to curb incidences of miscreants in the society.”

We have our own formula whereby we shouldn’t go by violence we can go by principle dialogue and to administer how best the society can grow through entrepreneur skills and agriculture," he said.

Malik said through the farm settlement project, they intend to make people to want to go the farm to curb the influx of people to urban centers.

He also added that to avoid distractions from their goals, the group does not engage in politics or religion.

"We are neutral in politicking and we are neutral in religion neither do we sponsor political parties".
