The Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF)  has embarked on a goal of grooming at least 1,000 extra-ordinary young women leaders by 2018.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the fund, Olufunke Baruwa, who disclosed this at a media briefing in Abuja recently said a number of projects are being implemented including the National Endowment for Democracy (NED)  to support young women leaders’ project in Niger, Nasarawa, Abia and Kogi states.
She said The Young Women Leaders project includes trainings on leadership skills, communication, public speaking, organising skills, community mobilisation for legislator-constituency engagements, online engagements, learning visits to the parliament and other strategic participation in leadership programmes. “The aim of this is to encourage young women to acquire knowledge and skills to effectively engage with the multi-layers and dynamics of power in decision making.These young women have had meetings with communities and have led communities to present requests on development issues to elected officials representing their constituency. This is the first time a group of Nigerian young women are leading communities in citizen-legislator engagement,” she said. 
Baruwa further said that a campaign tagged “#MyBoldSteps” was also launched to advance women’s political participation, and galvanize more action by men and women towards creating enabling environment for women’s leadership and political participation.
