The Citizens Alliance for Democratic Accountability (CADA) has responded to recent claims questioning fiscal transparency in Abia State, stating that the administration of Alex Otti is delivering observable governance outcomes.

The group said its position followed an assessment tour of states in the South-East, during which it reviewed infrastructure, public services, and residents’ experiences.

In a statement on Tuesday, CADA’s National President, Amb. Ibrahim B. Farouk, said the visit provided insights into development efforts in Abia in comparison with neighbouring states.

“Evaluations that rely primarily on fiscal metrics may not fully reflect conditions on the ground. In Abia, there are ongoing efforts in infrastructure, economic activity, and public service delivery,” Farouk said.

The group noted ongoing road rehabilitation projects in Aba and Umuahia, which it said are contributing to improved mobility and commercial activities.

It also referenced developments in electricity supply in parts of the state, noting that some residents and businesses have reported improvements linked to policy initiatives and alternative power arrangements.

CADA further pointed to administrative reforms aimed at improving service delivery and accountability within public institutions.

On environmental sanitation, the group said relevant state agencies have undertaken initiatives to improve waste management and urban cleanliness, particularly in Aba.

The group emphasised the importance of assessing governance using multiple indicators, including infrastructure, services, and citizen welfare, alongside fiscal data.

“It is important to consider different dimensions of governance when evaluating performance. Observations from residents and ongoing projects provide useful context for understanding current developments in Abia,” Farouk added.
