A group on the platform of Edo North Conscience (ENC), has charged the speaker of the of the Edo State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, to resign.
The group said this is because his party’s majority status has been lost to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Daily Trust reports that lawmakers in the assembly have been effecting to the ruling APC since the tenure of ex-Governor Godwin Obaseki ended.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was the ruling party under Obaseki.
In a communique issued at the ENC stakeholders meeting held in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, the group said political reality in the assembly does not support continued leadership of the speaker.
According to them, it was morally and politically wrong for a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker to hold the speaker position with 11 seats at the Assembly, “whereas, the APC commands a majority with 13 seats.”
“As it stand now, APC is the majority in the house with 13 members while the Peoples Democratic Part still retain the Speaker position.
According to communique, the embattled Speaker orchestrated the campaign that left APC members reeling in pains and discomfort during the State assembly elections that paved the way for his ascension to power.
The communique signed by Oshioke Aledeh and Patrick Balogun leader and secretary noted that the Edo political atmosphere had become charged with speaker Blessing Agbebaku still holding firm to the position.
“His removal from the seat appears to be the only balm that would sooth members of the ruling APC, led by Governor Monday Okpebholo.”
The group however vowed to initiate the process that could ultimately lead to Rt. Hon Agbebaku’s removal.
