The South-South Coalition of Ijaw Leadership Groups has appealed to the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, for forgiveness over allegations by some Ijaw groups that he forcefully took their lands in Gelegele, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State.

Addressing journalists yesterday in Benin, the chairman of the coalition, General Pere Ejune, pleaded with the Oba to use his exalted position to forgive those behind the offensive publication so as to foster peace and unity in the state.

According to him, the petitioners were bringing false allegations with the intent to cause disaffection in the peaceful Edo riverine communities and should desist.
