The Renewal Group, a non-governmental organisation, has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in alleged land grabbing activities in Lagos State.

The group, led by Lai Omotola, in an interview with newsmen expressed concerns over the rising cases of land grabbing in the state.

Omotola stressed the need for urgent intervention to curb what it described as ‘atrocities’, saying there is growing dissatisfaction worsened by the rising spate of demolitions of houses in Oworonshoki, Makoko and a few others.

“And why is this important to you, Mr. President? There’s a groundswell of dissatisfaction now going on in Lagos, and we think that there are certain people deliberately doing it, because I have never seen it in my 28 years working as an entrepreneur in this country, where people will be demolishing people’s property and citizens will be languishing, yearning, angry, making noise on social media,” he said.

He described it as a deliberate attempt to stir hatred in the hearts of the citizens ahead of the election in 2027.

“In an election year, politicians don’t do that and I feel that it’s a set-up towards the election, and it’s important that Mr. The President discusses the fact that he’s so busy and may not have concerns that he set up an inquiry to gauge the mood of the electorate,” he said.

He warned the security agencies against high-handedness in civil matters over land disputes.

 “Operations where the CP will unilaterally send policemen to people’s property without investigation, without hearing, and forcefully take over their property and injecting them, charging them to court, and denying them access to the land is what we are now saying that the president should investigate,” he said.
