Lifeline Care Association, an Abuja based non-governmental organisation, has sensitised residents on road crashes and the need to adopt safety measures on the highway.

Speaking during a walk organised by the charity in collaboration  with the United States Embassy and GreenLight Initiatives in Abuja at the weekend, founder of the NGO, Dr Nkem Momoh, said it was important to prevent loss of lives.

“We are a charity that has the mandate to offer free ambulance services. We support programmes like this and we hope to save more lives in the future. The government is in support of it. They gave us some road safety corps as encouragement,” he said.

Spokesman of the United States Embassy, Russell Brooks, said the road walk was targeted at creating awareness on the dangers in road traffic accidents in Nigeria and the number of people killed through road accidents around the world.

 “The US embassy supports this effort of promoting the safety and security of the people. Whatever we can do to raise the awareness and hopefully mitigate these road accidents, is for the good of everyone,” he said.

He added that the embassy has given grants to promote such initiatives.
