A group, Soroptimist International Abuja, has sensitised Gwarinpa residents on the need to respect women if violence against them is to be checked in the society.  

In a statement by one of the group’s directors, as part of activities to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Medinah Huthman, said no matter where violence against women happens, what form it takes, and whom it impacts, it must be stopped.

 Huthman said one in three women and girls experience violence in their lifetime, adding that it happens at home, schools, on the streets, at work, on the internet and in refugee camps.

“It happens during war, and even in the absence of war. Too often, it is normalised and goes unpunished,” she stated.
