The event tagged: “Tree Planting exercise, sensitisation and round table discussions on climate change in Nigeria,” educated pupils of Abuja Children’s Home Nursery and Primary School on the importance of tree planting, its socio-economic benefits and contributions to the global mitigation efforts.
Hamzat Lawal, Chief Executive Officer of CODE, spoke on how life styles contributed to global warming, causing change in weather pattern, heavy rain fall, and how improper disposal of waste  leads to flooding and affects students’ access to timely education in affected communities.
“Today’s tree planting exercise is also to show our support to the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) as a way of ‘raising our collective voices, and not the sea level.” Hamzat said.
Mrs Maria Yepwi, The Head Mistress of the school, commended the organisers of the event, stressing the need for planting and nurturing of tress.
She also called on the organisers to visit other public schools.
John Sanni, a pupil of the school, having learnt that his actions could work for or against climate change, promised to tell his friends in other schools to plant trees for the sustenance of the planet.
