Bridge and Bond Development Initiative (BBDI), a non-governmental organisation, has enlightened motor cycle riders popularly  called Okoda riders and other residents on the negative effects of drug abuse.

Speaking during the  at the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Lugbe, Lead Director of the organisation, Bar. Festus Onifade, said they were paying particular attention to Okada riders in the area because70 to 80% of people who reside there use Okada as a means of transportation.

He said  over the last few years an increase in the rate of accidents, and violent crimes has been observed because of the involvement of Okada riders  in drugs and other substance abuse.

He said the choice of Federal Housing Authority,  Lugbe was strategic in order to enlighten them about the effects of drug abuse.

He said that recent statistics show that people who are involved in drugs are more likely to be infected with diseases like HIV and  also pass it to other drug users.

He said: “One important thing we should do is to sustain sensitization programmes on drug abuse. As a   matter of fact, it has to be done over and over, and continuously to get those involved to stop.”

Barister Onifade said that good parenting was also key to tackling drug abuse.
