A non-governmental organisation, Connected Development (Code), has mobilised 18 community monitoring teams to track 28 constituency projects in 10 local government areas of Kaduna State.

CODE identified Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Igabi, Sabon Gari, Makarfi, Kaura, Zangon Kataf, Jema’a, Ikara, and Zaria as the LGAs to be monitored with the projects cutting across education, water sanitation, hygiene and the health sector.

Senior Programme Manager, Code, Lucy James, called on community monitoring teams to hold their elective representatives accountable for constituency projects earmarked to be implemented in their various communities.

James stated this at a town hall meeting on ‘Deepening Citizens’ Interest in Government Spending and Addressing the Accompanying Corruption Practices’ organised by CODE through ‘Follow the Money’ programme in Kafanchan.

“We also want the elective leaders to ensure they are hosting periodic town hall meetings to brief people on their projects at community level and also take a feedback from them,” she said.

Also, Abubakar Muhammed, the Kaduna State Programme Manager for Follow the Money, said the programme which will last three years will engage citizens and community monitoring members on how to monitor projects and also develop the habit of projects tracking.

Arewa Trust Weekly reports that the dialogue, sponsored by MacArthur Foundation, brought together key community stakeholders comprising traditional leaders, religious leaders, youths, women and community development champions.
