The body’s General Secretary, Mr Abdoulaye Diallo, in a statement in Abuja described the abduction of the school girls and others from Warabe village in the same state last week as not just inhuman but defies all norms of humanity.
He said the issue of human security in the region can only be addressed effectively if states decide to work together to deal with the problem.
He said given the regional nature of conflict and terrorists’ threats in the West African region, those states which are not affected today may have to face the same challenge sooner or later if a common action is not taken to entrench security and socio-political stability. While encouraging with the families of the girls and Nigerians at large, the organization welcomed the international offer of assistance to help rescue the missing girls.
Diallo in the statement said the threat by the leader of the insurgent group on abducting more girls and selling them off is against human rights and is in total contradiction which promotes the elevation of women as contributing members of the society.
The organisation also expressed concerns that parents will now be afraid to send their daughters to school for fear of losing them to insurgents’ abuses, hence reducing the chances for girls getting education skills for self-realization and further slowing down the development of ECOWAS member states.
WACSOF  called on all civil society organizations in the ECOWAS region to pull together and add their mobilization and advocacy weight in the search and rescue of the innocent girls wherever they may be.
