Group to hold free cancer screening

A non-governmental organization, Stand Up To Cancer, plans a free screening programme on breast cancer and enlightenment on healthy eating.

 A statement from the group signed by the Project Director, Caleb Egwuenu, said the quarterly health sensitization programme tagged “Eat and Screen,”  is slated for  28th of this month at GCL Plaza Abuja. He said it will help to promote healthy eating among the populace.

 “It will afford participants the opportunity to have free screenings on breast cancer, blood pressure test, sugar level test and BMI. We are going to be giving out free cervical cancer screening coupons to the first 50 women who will make it to the venue,” he said in the statement.

 He said the group will continue to emphasize the need for early detection and how it serves as pro-active measure to fight and survive cancer, adding that the need for the measure is to avoid delay in accessing timely treatment.

“If delayed, things could get worse hence making it nearly impossible for survival. If action is taken promptly, identification of the ailment is done early enough, treatment could commence; leaving one with better chances of survival,” he said.

 He added that the exercise will help create awareness on the fight against cancer and increase consciousness amongst Nigerians, especially the youth.

 While urging members of the public to participate in the exercise, he said the organization has held free screening exercises over the years in Abuja and Lagos.

 

 Stand Up To Cancer Nigeria is a youth-based cancer advocacy group and a non profit organization dedicated to providing essential medical information for people affected by or concerned about breast cancer.
