The Center for Intervention Development and Leadership (CIDL) is set to hold the maiden annual edition of Amity awards for the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).
LUTH has been chosen for the award due to the immense strides and achievements recorded by the current management of the institution, according to Chief Executive Officer of CIDL, Mr Solomon Alao.
Addressing newsmen at a media parley in Lagos, Alao said the aim of the event is to recognize and encourage workers in the health sector who have worked hard to ensure the good health of Nigerians.
He noted that the reason for focusing on LUTH was the tremendous efforts put by the management in the area of infrastructure and the proactive steps taken to forge partnership with corporate bodies to revamp the institution.
The CEO noted that the event which will be held on the 22nd of October at the Intercontinental Hotel, Lagos is focused at improving healthcare by raising awareness and attracting partnership with high network individuals to invest in the health sector.
He said, "The Amity Awards is a platform organized to inspire and complement positive initiatives, encourage good governance, engender hope and recognise exemplary service, to reinforce good behaviour in the benefiting institutions.
“The aim of this approach is not to assume the responsibilities of government or usurp its ownership of the health facilities, rather seeking to complement Government’s efforts, leveraging on existing frameworks to attract development partnership through citizen action and participation.
"There’s no gainsaying that our healthcare facilities need a revamp, however, rather than just bemoan the situation, we want to be part of the five per cent that are ready to do something…anything we can to bring about positive change".
He stressed the need for the health sector to move from need-based approach to asset-based approach by keying into the existing projects aimed at achieving sustainable development growth.
