Group to launch app, in support of anti-graft campaign

A group, Youth Alive Foundation (YAF) is set to launch a mobile application, website and stage a concert to encourage youth participation in the fight against corruption.

The Executive Director of Youth Alive Foundation (YAF) Dr Uduak Okon who identified youth participation as crucial in the fight against corruption in Nigeria said the social movement engagement tagged #MadAct (Make a Difference against Corruption Today).

She said, with the launch billed for Saturday at the Old Parade Ground, Abuja, youths would be encouraged to increase to level of scrutiny of corruption in the society by recording it and bringing to knowledge of everybody.

While speaking at a media roundtable to launch the implementation of a project aimed at strengthening youths’ participation against corruption, she said the group would mobilize youths to take action against corruption through social movement campaign.

Dr Okon said the roundtable was set up to amplify the work of the project against corruption.

She added that the strategy is to bring about change and there is a need to change the conversation and introduce a counter culture against corruption for the youths.

Also speaking, the programme coordinator for Youth Initiative for Advocacy Growth and Advancement (YIAGA), Ibrahim Faruk said the anti-corruption fight seems to be led by the government and rarely do youths embark against the fight.

The representative of Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), Ovo Otarie while also speaking at the event said it is important to work with the youths at the forefront of the campaign as they represent about 60% of the population in Africa.
