A non-government organisation, Partners West Africa Nigeria (PWAN), has urged residents of Karu, a suburb of Abuja, to report  incidents of rape and cultism to the police.

The group said that is the only way action could be taken against the crimes, which tend to be spiralling in recent times.

PWAN Project Manager, Barr. Henry Anoliefo, made the appeal during a sensitisation programme of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) in the community, stressing that the Act has provisions for punishment on anyone who commits such crimes.

He noted that the community has had rampart cases of cultism which need to be curbed.

Anoliefo urged them to report such cases to the police but if they were not comfortable reporting to the police, they could call on PWAN which will likely take up the cases.

He noted that the aim of the visit was to enlighten people of the community about ACJA so that they will know their rights in the case of arrest.

He said it was important for people to know their rights in the society and as well, help to protect the rights of others.
