The group said failure to extend the date would prevent some Nigerians from exercising their civic right during the elections.
ANWAI National coordinator Chief Daniel Ekwevi made the call in Abuja at a press conference where he pointed out that his group learnt that some people got their PVCs by proxy.
“It’s now imperative for us to address Nigerians about the postponement of the elections and to urge INEC to extend the date for the collection of the PVCs to 20th March, 2015,” he said.
He added that based on findings by his group, more than 14 million Nigerians were yet to collect their PVCs.
He said: “There are several complaints everywhere about INEC, including use of card readers. For these reasons, we believe the collection of the PVCs must be extended.”
The group said it would embark on massive sensitisation on PVCs collection, appealing to politicians and the elite to refrain from making statements and comments capable of creating tension and fear among Nigerians.
Ekwevi urged Nigerians not to succumb to fear of intimidation and refuse to be used to cause harm to anyone.
