The protesters who carried various placards such as: “we say No to genetically modified foods”, “Give us seeds, not poison”, “Mr minister, you will answer for this-there is God”, “Give us machine and we will give you more food”, among others were received by the Commissioner for Information in the State, Lateef Ibirogba.
Addressing the gathering, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour who is the Coordinator of Nigerians against GMO (NAG), said it is incumbent on all well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on Minister of Agriculture, Dr Akinwunmi Adesina to desist from the ongoing plan to introduce genetically modified seeds (hybrid seeds) to Nigerian agricultural sector.
According to Rhodes-Vivour, has serious health implications on
Nigerians and the soil in which they farm. He said government appears neck-deep into deal because of certain finances coming from big corporations in foreign companies.
