Two civic and student groups have called on the Supreme Court to deliver a fair and impartial judgment in the ongoing legal dispute within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), stressing the importance of judicial integrity and democratic stability.

In separate statements, the Coalition of Youth and Students for Good Governance in Nigeria and the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) Senate Arm emphasised that the anticipated ruling goes beyond party politics and reflects on the strength of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

The coalition, in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Olalere Benedict Adetunji, described the moment as a critical test for the judiciary.

“Nigeria’s democracy stands or falls on the strength of its institutions, and none is more critical at defining moments than the Supreme Court,” the group said. “As the country anticipates the judgment on the internal crisis within the PDP, this moment goes beyond party politics—it is a direct test of judicial integrity, public trust, and democratic stability.”

The group added that public confidence in democracy depends on judgments being seen as impartial and grounded in law.

“At the heart of every democracy is the principle that justice must not only be done, but must be seen to be done,” the statement read. “A well-reasoned and impartial judgment in this case will reassure Nigerians that democratic processes, no matter how turbulent, can still be resolved through lawful and peaceful means.”

Similarly, the NAPS Senate Arm reaffirmed its commitment to justice, constitutional order, and democratic principles, noting the role of the judiciary as a stabilising force.

“Democracy can only thrive where institutions are strong, justice is impartial, and the rule of law is respected,” the statement said, citing provisions of the 1999 Constitution. “The judiciary, particularly the Supreme Court, remains the last hope of the common man and the final guardian of justice in our democratic system.”

The student body also warned against weakening democratic balance, stressing the need for institutional independence and accountability.

“Nigeria must not drift into a system where democratic balance is weakened,” it said. “Justice delivered with transparency and fairness strengthens national unity, restores public trust, and protects democratic progress.”

Both groups urged the apex court to uphold fairness and the rule of law in its forthcoming decision, expressing hope that the judgment would reinforce confidence in Nigeria’s democratic system.

“Justice must stand. Democracy must prevail. Nigeria must win,” the NAPS Senate Arm stated.
