Guard arrested for stealing generator

A 35-year-old security guard at Ojota New Garage, Lagos, Yekini Opeyemi, has been arrested for leading a gang to steal generating sets from shops in a market.

The suspect, who the police said was an ex-convict, had successfully loaded a truck with the generators belonging to traders in the market before his arrest.

The state’s police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, said, “The suspect, Yekini Opeyemi (35), was arrested at about 4am near Odo-Iya Alaro, Ojota, in company of others (now at large) trying to load one Firman and one Tigmax generator, 2.8 KVA each, into a Volkswagen Golf. The driver, on sighting the police officers, sped off, leaving Yekini behind.

“When accosted, Yekini, who had been imprisoned on four different occasions over separate incidents, could not give any satisfactory explanation about the generators.”
