Former World Boxing Federation (WBF) Cruiserweight Champion, Bashiru Oloruntoyin Ali, popularly known as Bash Ali, has renewed his call for government backing, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to inaugurate a fresh Local Organising Committee for his long-delayed world title fight.
Speaking during a media chat, the 69-year-old boxer, who has spent nearly two decades lobbying for official support, said the proposed bout, aimed at securing a Guinness World Record, is expected to attract participants from 132 countries.
The historic event, which has yet to be staged on African soil, he noted, would place Nigeria on the global boxing map.
“A Guinness world record boxing championship fight has never been held on the soil of Africa but mine would be the first and the most lucrative. 132 countries are coming to Nigeria to be part of boxing history and over forty-six thousand people have agreed to buy ringside tickets at the rate of $500 to watch this historic fight in Nigeria,” he said.

Speaking further, Bash Ali noted that the committee had been set up thrice between November 9, 2006 and May 21, 2019, but corruption had stalled the project’s takeoff.
“For almost 19 years, to make this event a reality, the federal government has on three occasions inaugurated the LOC.
“I am respectfully asking for the immediate re-inauguration of the Bash Ali boxing project local organising committee by Mr. President so that all the unnecessary obstacles caused by corruption will be knocked out and this historic fight can take place in our great country, Nigeria,” he said.
