A People Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant for Adamawa by-election and former Special Adviser on Political Matters to the President, Ahmed Gulak, has called for resignation of Adamawa State Acting Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri before the forthcoming bye election.

Speaking in an interview in Yola, Gulak who is also an aspirant argued that Fintiri is  still the speaker of Adamawa State House of Assembly and he is expected to return to his seat after the election, saying Fintiri has no constitutional right to contest.

“The Acting Governor remains the speaker of the House that is why his deputy took over in acting capacity and no substantive speaker is elected. The constitution has reserved his seat for him because he is expected to go back to his office. If he wants to contest for election, he has to resign his position as speaker. As soon as he resigns as speaker, a new speaker will be sworn in and take over as Acting Governor  ” , he said.

He said PDP must not repeat the mistake of imposing candidate  in Adamawa, stressing the need to give the electorate their power to elect the most popular candidate.

He said although Nuhu Ribadu is welcome to the party, President Jonathan has not anointed any candidate, saying he is confident the party will conduct free and fair primaries.
