If this happens, the long existing communication link and association between the community and their neighbours would be lost while the major linking road would not be accessible again.
The gully, measuring about 100m deep had served as shelter for Biafran soldiers where they hid during the civil war and was later turned into a cemetery where many people were buried.
The gully which the people tagged as Aka ka madu (the hand bigger than human being) is about to swallow some of the structures built around the place, including the palace of the traditional ruler of the community, the St. Perter’s Anglican Church and the community primary school, Okohia in Isiama autonomous community, Isiala Mbano LGA.
Addressing newsmen in his palace yesterday, the traditional ruler of Umuihim autonomous community, HRH Eze Olicer Chinedu Ohanweh, cried out to both the federal and state governments through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to come to their aid.
Ohanweh lamented over the danger posed by the gully to the community, maintaining that before now his community had been known as the food basket of the state due to the large quantity of food crops produced in the area.
He therefore appealed to the ministries concerned as well as federal and state governments to make haste and save his people from their predicament.
Adding his voice, a retired permanent secretary, Ministry of Finance, Chief Louis Ukanwa lamented that soon the gully would cut off their community in a way that they would not have anything common with other communities.
