Eleven passengers were abducted on Monday when gunmen intercepted a commercial bus along Ndele-Elele axis of East-West road, in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The victims had boarded the bus at Rumuokoro axis of Port Harcourt around 7pm and were travelling to Ndele, Elele and Ahoada respectively when the incident occurred about an hour into the journey.
Mr. Bright Welekwe, one of the passengers, said 19 of them entered the bus at Rumuokoro, but three alighted at Ndele. He said the armed men intercepted the bus and ordered all the remaining passengers in the vehicle to enter the bush.
Welekwe said “We were 19 that boarded a bus from Rumuokoro going to Ahoada but when we got to Ndele three people dropped. Shortly after, around the bush between Ndele and Elele Alimini, hoodlums ambushed us. I and four other persons escaped, while the remaining 11 passengers were taken deep into the bush before the police arrived. But I am sure they did not recover the rest people that night even with the help of soldiers.” The Rivers State Commissioner of Police Almed Zaki confirmed the story.
