Gunmen have reportedly abducted six passengers from a commercial vehicle travelling along the Ogobia–Adoka Road in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
Locals said the incident occurred over the weekend when the armed men intercepted the vehicle and whisked the occupants away to an unknown destination. Some residents alleged that the driver was killed after the kidnappers forced the vehicle to a halt, causing it to skid off the road into a bush before the passengers were taken.
Chairman of Otukpo LGA, Alfred Omakwu, confirmed the incident to our correspondent by telephone, saying it happened two days earlier.
“We assume that, given the capacity of the vehicle, six persons could have been involved and taken away by the abductors. As of now, I don’t have information on whether they have been released or not. However, there are speculations that the abductors have opened talks with the victims’ families,” he said.
Police spokesperson for the Benue Command, DSP Udeme Edet, told journalists in Makurdi that she would provide details later. She had yet to respond at the time of filing this report.
