Bibi Oweifa, who is also a grassroots youth mobilizer, was reportedly kidnapped on Friday around the Bayelsa State secretariat Annex One complex.
The abduction of Oweifa was said to have come hours before his intended defection with hundreds of his supporters, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Reformed-All Progressives Congress (r-APC), in the state.
Bibi, an indigene of Bumoundi, in Ekpetiama clan, Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state, was allegedly kidnapped around 3:30pm while coming out from the state secretariat near the government house. The gunmen were said to have invaded the vicinity in military uniform, laid siege and overpowered him when he came out from an office and made away with him leaving behind his personal assistant.
The police spokesman in the state, DSP Asinim Butswat could not be reached at the time of filing this report. Calls placed to his phone number were not answered and a text message sent to him was also not responded to.
