A popular businessman in Takum town in Taraba State has been abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers, Daily Trust has learnt.
A witness, Bulus James, told Daily Trust that Chidi Bore was abducted by four gunmen at about 8pm Monday at his shop near Mami market of the town.
The witness said the gunmen came on four motorcycles and started shooting in the air to scare people close to the shop away.
The gunmen after abducting the businessman escaped on their motorcycles following the road leading to Katsina-Ala in Benue State, James said.
It was further gathered that it was the same area in the town where late Hosea Ibi, the member representing Takum 1 in Taraba State House of Assembly was abducted and later killed by kidnappers.
Spokesman of the Taraba police command, ASP David Misal, confirmed the kidnap of the businessman, adding that the police were on the trail of the kidnappers.
He added that the command had arrested eight robbery and kidnapping suspects who have confessed to been members of the gang terrorising parts of Bali and Gassol LGAs.
He said one AK47, one locally made single barrel riffle, one locally made revolver riffle and a locally made pistol were recovered from the suspects.
In a related development, another businessman, Babangida Wuriyo, who was abducted by three gunmen in Gassol LGA four days ago has regained his freedom.
Wuriyo was said to have been thoroughly beaten by his abductors when his family paid N2 million as against N5 million ransom they demanded.
It was gathered that the businessman was abducted in his house at midnight at his village, blindfolded and made to trek for a distance of about 20 kilometres to the kidnappers den located in the forest.
