Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a community health worker, Dr Ebi, popularly known as Omo Kemuna and his wife in Okebukun area of Iluke community in the Bunu district of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Residents said the incident occurred around 1:00am on Thursday when the attackers stormed the community, shooting sporadically and forcing residents to flee for safety.

The gunmen reportedly whisked the doctor and his wife away to an undisclosed location on motorcycles.

A youth leader in the community identified as Samuel said the attackers invaded the area heavily armed and shot repeatedly after abducting the couple.

“They carried the doctor and his wife on motorcycles. Dr Ebi owns a clinic in Oferre, a settlement in Iluke community. Immediately they captured them, they shot sporadically and escaped to an unknown destination,” he said.

Samuel added that the attack had thrown the community into fear, with panic spreading to neighbouring communities in Mopamuro and Ijumu local government areas.

Residents alleged that kidnappers had continued to terrorise Iluke community and surrounding areas in recent months.

They recalled that on May 4, 2026, gunmen attacked commuters along the Iluke-Oferre road and abducted several persons.

A resident who spoke anonymously said one commercial driver identified as Jacob was seized after running into the kidnappers’ barricade.

Residents also recalled that on April 16, 2026, gunmen abducted two wives and two children of the paramount ruler of Odai settlement in the same community, demanding a N150 million ransom.

The spokesperson of the Kogi State police command, ASP Saliu Afuzat Oyiza, said she would respond after making inquiries, but was yet to do at the time of filing this report.
