A popular supermarket owner in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, Ugochukwu Okpala, was yesterday kidnapped at gun point by yet-to-be identified hoodlums.
Daily Trust on Sunday learnt the woman who owns Wisdom Supermarket located in Gadumo area of the town was kidnapped in the late evening of Saturday in front of her super market shortly after closing for the day.
She was said to be sitting and discussing with friends in front of the supermarket when the gunmen struck and carried her away to an unknown destination.
The abductors were yet to establish contact with the family of the woman at the time of filing this report.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, William Aya, confirmed the incident, saying the command was informed that Okpala was abducted during the closing period on Friday.
He added that the woman was about to enter her car to head home when “she was accosted, pushed into their (abductors) own car and driven off to an unknown destination.”
Aya said the abductors abandoned the woman’s car and drove off in their own car with her.
He said the state’s commissioner of police, CP Edward Eboka, has mobilised officers in conjunction with other sister security agencies, including local vigilantes to go after her abductors.
